The Mirabel Foundation turns 25

It’s been an absolute privilege over the last six months to work with the Mirabel Foundation, which is celebrating a quarter-century of assisting kids in kinship care, having been orphaned or abandoned by parental drug use.

It’s such an inspiring charity and still driven by its wondrous founder, Jane Rowe, who turned her own difficult back story and years as a drug counsellor into this foundation that helps so many. Mirabel’s motto is: Every child deserves a childhood.

For the 25th anniversary annual report, I interviewed Jane, patrons, carers, Mirabel alumni, volunteers and others at every level who are involved in making the work happen. It’s so beautiful to tell such stories of passion and commitment and generosity.

To a person, the interviewees were brave, emotionally open, unflinching about the struggle of Mirabel kids and resolute that they would not let those kids down.

Thank you to Nicole Patton for allowing me to play my role in creating the report.
